Eva Longoria loves London pubs

Eva Longoria loves coming to London to visit the city’s pubs. The former ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress is a big fan of traditional British drinking establishments and when she’s in the UK she tries to find time to have a couple of pints of beer.

Speaking at The Noble Gift Gala 2012, which was held at the ME Hotel in London on Saturday night (10.12.12), Eva told BANG Showbiz: ”I love being in London, even though normally I have busy schedules that don’t allow me to enjoy the city that much. But sometimes I think of jumping out of the car and sitting in a pub for a while. Unfortunately, I came here to work and it’s been pretty busy so far.”

The event was hosted to raise funds in support of three charities, The Eva Longoria Foundation, Fight for Life and Caudwell Children, and Eva went to visit the University College Hospital to see the work Fight For Life is doing to help children battling cancer. The screen beauty admits the visit was a humbling experience and she was so impressed by the bravery shown by the kids who are battling to get well.

Eva revealed: ”We’re raising money for Fight For Life, which is going to help a lot of children. We went to the University College Hospital and got to see the facilities and the new machine they purchased to facilitate radiotherapy treatments for children. That’s the main goal for this event, to keep on contributing on these causes in which we are all directly involved. We were talking to parents, siblings, doctors and everybody who are working really hard to improve the services to children with cancer.

”I just felt really humble when I visited the kids at the hospital. I was so impressed about how strong and resilient they are. I think they truly define what strength involves. Although they were happy to see me there, it was them who lifted my spirits. I could feel that they are going through this family tragedy by sticking to each other, to their families and also with the support of the whole community. That’s why I wanted to do this event in London, because this country is really generous and supportive of charities. Here there’s a strong sense of community that is admirable.”

Other guests included will.i.am, Mel B – who acted as Mistress of Ceremony – Ashley Roberts and Stooshe. Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am was presented with the 2012 Noble Gift Humanitarian Award at the event for his outstanding contribution to charity. Amongst his philanthropic activities, will.i.am created his i.am.angel Foundation to provide after-school tutoring and scholarships for disadvantaged young people seeking to attend university through his i.am College Track Programme.

His foundation operates the i.am.Home Fund to help prevent struggling families in the United States from losing their homes, while earlier this year the musician made a major contribution to The Prince’s Trust to support technology and computer skill development initiatives in the UK

Eva Longoria: You don’t have to be rich to be a philanthropist

Eva Longoria may have found fame starring in Desperate Housewives but she’s since used her celebrity for incredible causes, in particular helping Latino women to build better futures for themselves via her charity, The Eva Longoria Foundation. As the stunning activist embarks on yet another fundraising initiative by throwing The Noble Gift Gala in London this weekend, Eva took the time to encourage all of us to get involved and stresses we don’t need to be a film star or have a huge bank balance to do our bit.

Speaking exclusively to Marie Claire online about her charity work she said: ‘One of the biggest myths is that you have to be rich to be a philanthropist, that’s not the case.

‘Most charities and foundations are run by volunteers – people may not be able to give money, but they can still give their time.’

Right now times are tougher than ever and Eva wants to ensure people remember to keep giving. She added: ‘With the world being where it is economically, it’s more important to do charity work than ever before.

‘And it’s important to be part of this fundraising initiative [The Noble Gift Gala] to make a difference to women and children around the world who need our help.’

Eva has managed to produce a star-studded guest list for this weekend’s gala event at the ME Hotel with the likes of will.i.am and Mel B attending.

‘We have a great line up of talented people who have offered their time to be with us,’ said Eva who returns to the gala for the third time. ‘We always call it a fun-raising event, we put the ‘fun’ back in fundraising.’

But at the very core of things will always be charity and Eva summed things up nicely adding: ‘What we try to do with Noble Gift Gala, is help a lot of local foundations making sure we’re doing remarkable things in the country where we’re fundraising.’

Eva Longoria: Victoria Beckham is The reason why i look fantastic

Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham have been firm friends ever since the designer headed stateside, but it appears their admiration for each other goes beyond simple flattery as Eva tells Marie Claire online that she only looks beautiful thanks to her pal.

When we told Eva she always looks stunning in what she wears, her reply was firmly focused on her friend, saying: ‘I look fantastic because I’m wearing Victoria Beckham’s dresses.’ With such high praise we has to ask if there could ever be a potential fashion partnership between the duo, Eva was instantaneous in her reply, telling us: ‘I think Victoria’s talent is unmatched by anyone right now but I’m not as fashion forward as she is [laughs].’

And it didn’t end there, the actress who is appearing at The Noble Gift Gala this weekend to raise funds for her charity, The Eva Longoria Foundation, continued with: ‘Oh she [Victoria Beckham] is a genius, an absolute genius.’

After these comments we imagine the entire Victoria Beckham collection is winging it’s way over to Eva as we type…

Eva Longoria: Making over Latino power with money

They say that Hollywood is a place where you can remake yourself into whatever you want, and no star knows that better than Eva Longoria. Eight years ago, she transformed herself from one of the many daytime soap opera actors in Tinseltown into a major entertainment star with the hit ABC drama “Desperate Housewives,” becoming possibly the biggest Hispanic name in show business today.

Eva Longoria is trying to increase Latino power in politics

Now she is trying to do the same makeover for Latino power in politics, attempting to transform their role through the voice she knows speaks the loudest both in Hollywood and Washington – money, which has traditionally been the mother’s milk of politics.

The 37-year-old actress is the best known of a small coterie of wealthy Latinos who are trying to develop a fund-raising arm that, along with the Hispanic clout at the polls, will put the American Hispanic agenda at the forefront of the country’s national political dialog.

“We wanted to make sure the Latino community stops being a number and starts being looked at as a market,” says Longoria. “It may have been a shock to some, but not if you look at trends in Hispanic buying power.”

The other Latino millionaires who are helping Longoria are her fellow Texan Henry Muñoz III, a San Antonio architectural-designer; Puerto Rican attorney Andres W. Lopez; former television anchor Giselle Fernandez; and prominent Chicago trial lawyer Manuel “Manny” Sanchez.

The Hispanic political model is turned on its ear

“What Eva and her partners are doing is turning the Hispanic political model on its ear,” says California political consultant William Orozco. “Other Latino political and advocacy groups have been around for decades, but they’ve never raised the kind of money for a campaign like what Eva and her people did this year.

“It’s revolutionary in American Latino politics, and in politics nothing talks like money. It makes Eva a new political force in her own right.”

Eva Longoria feels guilty about success

Eva Longoria has admitted she feels guilty about the wealth and success her acting career has provided her but she tries to use that emotion to do more charity work.

Eva Longoria feels guilty about her wealth. The 37-year-old actress involved with several charity projects and has her own organisation The Eva Longoria Foundation, which aims to help developmentally disabled children and women worldwide but particularly from the Latino community in the US. When the former ‘Desperate Housewives’ star is carrying out her volunteering and charity work she admits she can’t help but feel as though she has had too much good fortune in her life compared to those she is helping.

In an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, Eva said: ”I’ve met farm workers who can’t afford a home; children with special needs who are excluded from society; women from minority backgrounds with no access to education. And yes, when I meet them I do feel guilty.

”I’m well aware that I get paid a lot of money for what I do and every day I get to go home to my nice house. If you have a heart, of course you’ll feel guilty in that situation.”

However, Eva uses her guilty emotions as motivation to help those less fortunate than herself.

She added: ”Guilty is no bad thing. It makes me aware. It keeps my eyes wide open.”

Eva’s passion for charity work comes from the relationship she has with her older sister Elizabeth who was born with Down’s syndrome and the work she has down for her and others with the chromosomal condition.

She revealed: ”When I was a kid, I was constantly volunteering, trying to make a difference – and not just for Elizabeth. It’s now a part of who I am.”

Eva Longoria at Mario Lopez & Courtney Mazza Wedding In Mexico

Eva Longoria walked down the aisle on Saturday (December 1st, 2012) when she acted as bridesmaid at actor Mario Lopez‘s romantic beach wedding. The Desperate Housewives beauty flew out to Mexico to watch her pal Lopez marry Courtney Mazza at Joe Francis’ Casa Aramara villa in Punta Mita. She took to her Twitter.com page to post photos of herself being zipped into her blue bridesmaid’s dress, tweeting, “How many people does it take to zip up a dress? Apparently three! I can’t breathe but the dress looks good!” Lopez and Mazza had another special guest in their wedding party – their two-year-old daughter Gia was their flower girl, and donned a dress to match her mum’s gown. The traditional Catholic ceremony, attended by 150 guests, was taped for Tv special Mario & Courtney’s Wedding Fiesta, which will air in the U.S. on 8 December (12). It was not Lopez’s first wedding – he was briefly married to actress Ali Landry in 2004. The union lasted less than a month.
